We are looking for a GP interested in moving away from patient facing care and supporting the health outcomes of our Northland population in a different way.  This role can offer flexibility of some remote and some onsite and flexible hours.

The clinical director role represents an exciting opportunity to advocate for the health needs of our Northland population, for Northland Primary Care and to lead and be part of health system improvement initiatives. Whilst a component of the role is responsive, operational support there is also opportunity to follow personal passions and respond to topical challenges facing the Primary Care sector.

This role requires someone who is very experienced in primary care delivery with governance and strategic planning ability.  You will need to be comfortable in stake-holder engagement, leading initiatives and working in a leadership capacity with colleagues in both primary and secondary services.  This role is varied and responsive to supporting the needs of general practice and primary care providers in the delivery of quality, equitable, accessible primary healthcare services that support improved outcomes for our Northland population.

As a registered NZ General Practitioner, you will be very familiar with the current challenges of our primary care sector, passionate about making a difference, someone who shares our Mahitahi values and who has a strong focus on health equity, improving Maori and Pasifika health outcomes while supporting our whole of primary care workforce and system.

About Mahitahi Hauora

Mahitahi Hauora is a primary health entity.  Underpinned by Te Tiriti o Waitangi, our Kaupapa includes ensuring whānau and communities have access to the services they determine they need, are able to achieve self-determined wellbeing and to live a long and healthy life.  We work collaboratively with community, primary healthcare providers and key partners to support general practices, Māori health providers and social sector agencies, to achieve better health outcomes for our Tai Tokerau population.

The Position

The position is required to provide overall clinical leadership to the organisation supporting primary care services, facilitating continuous quality improvement initiatives, managing emerging developments in primary care and supporting activities that result in:

  • improved safety and patient experiences
  • improved health outcomes, and
  • improved access for our enrolled population.

To be successful in this role, you will need to be a current registered GP with extensive experience and strong knowledge of the challenges facing primary care in Northland and New Zealand. You will be a respected colleague and be prepared to support primary care in a different role. Ideally this role will work from the Whangarei Mahitahi Hauora office.

To be considered for this position you must:

  • Be a NZ Registered General Practitioner with experience of working in NZ Primary Care, preferably in Northland
  • Have Registration in NZ General Practice Vocational scope or working towards this
  • Have an understanding of the health and wellbeing challenges facing the Northland population
  • Understand the role of clinical governance in Primary Care and the wider health system
  • Experience in strategic planning
  • Experience in developing and implementing health services and/or programmes
  • Have advanced computer literacy across MS Office 365 suite
  • Be a confident, skilled communicator both verbal and written
  • Be capable of developing and maintaining a wide range of stakeholder relationships, from consumer to ministerial positions, within primary and secondary care and from local to national scale.
  • Must have NZ residency or citizenship or hold a current open NZ work visa.
