A Virtual Health Improvement Practitioner is not a General Practitioner, and does not replace your doctor appointments. The role of the Virtual HIP is to provide another accessible option to visit a Health Improvement Practitioner (HIP). Your Virtual HIP will work closely with your GP, and other providers, to coordinate further support or referrals if required.
This is not a medical appointment. If you are having a medical emergency or you have thoughts of harm to yourself or others, please call 111.
You will need to be registered with a Manage My Health account and already enrolled with a Mahitahi Hauora member general practice.
Your general practice will provide you with an activation guide via email after completing the registration process. You need to visit Manage My Health main page by either downloading the MMH App on your phone or via the following links for Apple App Store or Google Play. Once installed click on Activate Account to complete the activation process.
Yes, instead of selecting the video option when making an appointment, there is the option to select phone as the preferred choice for connecting with the Virtual HIP.
Your appointment will show as “pending” then after a few minutes it will change to “approved”. You will also receive an email and a text to confirm the date and time of your appointment.
Please ensure that your device is charged and that you have a good mobile or Wi-Fi signal. The Virtual HIP will connect with you at the date and time of your appointment. You will need to be logged into your Manage My Health account to connect with the video consultation. The Virtual HIP will phone you at the time of your appointment for phone consults.
Ensure that you have activated your Manage My Health account and that your device has a good internet connection. If you still experience problems, then restart your device and try connecting again.
The Virtual HIP will try a few times to connect with you. If the video consultation still fails, then the Virtual HIP will call on your mobile number to discuss your options.
Just like in a face-to-face appointment, the Virtual HIP records key details from your session. This information is added to your usual GP medical records, so your healthcare team can continue to support you in an informed, collaborative way.
