Today, 1 July 2026, marked the opening day of a new nurse-led general practice in Kaeo, owned and operated by Te Rūnanga o Whaingaroa (TROW). Te Pokapū joins the Mahitahi Hauora PHE network of general practices.
TROW are invested in building a locally led, kaupapa Māori model of care for whānau throughout Whangaroa. At the centre of this is a transition toward Nurse Practitioner-led services, designed to improve access to timely, high-quality care grounded in tikanga and the lived realities of whānau.
“We are excited to welcome Te Pokapū Community Clinic in Kaeo to our network. This new nurse-led general practice strengthens the range of services available where it is greatly needed, improving access to health care in a high needs rural community.” – Sandra Wilkinson, Partnership Services Manager at Mahitahi Hauora PHE.
