Keeping up with your child’s immunisations is an important way to keep them, and other vulnerable members of your whānau, from getting sick and needing to go to the hospital. Before vaccines were widely available, many people, including babies and children, died, or suffered with serious life-long health issues. Vaccines reduce the risk of long-term issues and disabilities, as stop people from dying from diseases that can be prevented.
Your tamariki are much more likely to get sick from an infectious disease than they are to get sick from getting vaccinated. Every vaccine available in New Zealand has been assessed for safety. Find out more about vaccine effects, reaction and safety here.
Your GP or a Nurse at your general practice will answer any questions you have about vaccinations.
