Become a HIP and join our skilled and innovative team of clinicians who work alongside general practice patients to provide brief behavioural health support. In this role, you will help improve the emotional and physical wellbeing of individuals and whānau through accessible, person-centred care.

As a HIP, you will be based at Broadway Health Kaikohe, a well-established general practice with a large patient population. You will work as part of the wider practice team to support the wellbeing needs of the local community.

About the role

Our HIP’s work under the very successful Te Tumu Waiora model of care providing immediately accessible, evidence-based brief interventions to individuals and their whanau.

Services are provided in accordance with the principles of Te Tiriti ō Waitangi, Tikanga and Māori models of health and wellbeing and are culturally responsive to the needs of all service users.  New HIP’s attend specialist training and are well supported.  All HIP’s enjoy collegial support, peer group meetings, and ongoing training.

A typical day as a HIP would be:

  • Providing brief psychological interventions, no case management, no follow up unless patient requests
  • Developing and providing group sessions and therapy
  • A fast pace in the GP practice setting
  • Innovation and flexibility
  • Opportunities to contribute to service development
  • Working with a diverse practice population, all ages and stages
  • Collegial support and peer group sessions, regional and nationwide
  • Being an educator of the HIP model of care to your general practice colleagues

To be considered for a HIP role you absolutely must have:

  • A current New Zealand registration under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (HPCA) and full registration with your professional association e.g., Mental Health Nurse, Social Work, Psychology, Psychotherapy, or Occupational Therapy, or be a full member of NZ Association of Counsellors and accredited by the NZAC to work within the mental health and addictions services scope of practice. (this is an absolute requirement)
  •  A minimum of 3 years professional clinical experience working in a health setting preferably mental health and addiction environment (primary or secondary) providing evidence-based brief interventions such as ACT, FACT or CBT.
  •  A minimum of 3 years of professional experience working in your field of registration
  • A current unencumbered full NZ driver’s licence
  •  Excellent computer and literacy skills including MS Office Suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Current Covid Vaccination

An understanding of Tikanga and some ability to speak Te Reo would be an advantage.

You must have NZ citizenship or residency, or a current NZ open work visa not tied to an employer to be eligible for this role.  We are not an accredited immigration employer and cannot accept applications who require visa support.
