People who want to make an informed decision about getting their COVID-19 vaccination can now access a free appointment to seek advice from a GP.
The offer is available at all general practices across Northland until 15 November, and is open to anyone living in Tai Tokerau who is unvaccinated against COVID-19 or has received only their first dose.
The free appointments are funded by Mahitahi Hauora Primary Health Entity and are initially available until 15 November, which is the deadline for receiving the first dose in professions where vaccination is mandatory.
Mahitahi Hauora Chief Executive Officer Jensen Webber said the PHE wants to enable people to have in-depth conversations with health professionals about the benefits and side effects of the vaccine.
“There are people in our community who could be at risk of losing their jobs after the impending due date for professions affected by mandatory COVID-19 vaccination, and they need an opportunity to make an informed decision,” he said.
“Others feel hesitant or anxious about getting vaccinated because of the rumours and misinformation they may have heard, or feel uncertain whether the vaccine is safe for their individual circumstances. Those people need a chance to have their questions answered by someone they trust.
“We’re making sure cost and access to health care professionals are not barriers. This free consultation is for everyone in Tai Tokerau – even if you’re not enrolled with a practice.”
Mr Webber said Mahitahi Hauora would consider extending the offer beyond 15 November if uptake was good.
People wishing to access the free appointment should contact their general practice.
