How to enrol in a General Practice

It’s free to enrol with a General Practice or Māori Health Provider, although you may have to pay for consultations when you visit them. You can find a General Practice on HealthPoint. HealthPoint also provides information about what services practices offer, what they charge, and whether they’re enrolling new patients. A General Practice may ‘close its books’ if it can’t safely take on any more patients. If this happens, please contact us at Mahitahi Hauora for help with finding another practice.

Most practices will ask you to sign an enrolment form when you enrol. You may be asked to show your passport or birth certificate to prove you’re eligible for publicly funded primary health services. The enrolment form will require you to provide some personal details such as name, age, date of birth, address and ethnicity. The information collected at enrolment is subject to the Privacy Act 2020 and the Health Information Privacy Code 2020, so the privacy of your information is protected.
